Chronicling the trends and fashions around Rowan University

What affects what students buy?

Walking around campus, everybody is wearing something different. So what has an effect on how each student chooses to buy something?

Money. College students often are trying to save money. If Delias has a dress for $40, and Forever21 has a similar dress for $20, more often than not, the student will choose the cheaper dress. Even if a student has a job, he or she needs to pay for food, for gas if their car is on campus, or even their books for class.
Environment. If a student is living in Florida, he or she would buy clothes that one would wear in warm weather. However, Glassboro is not Florida. Students attending Rowan often stock up on hoodies, rain gear, and jackets.
Influence. Whether it is a celebrity or a person you see walking to your English class, people often have an influence on what you buy. If you see a girl wearing a shirt you want, you’ll keep an eye out for something similar next time you’re at the mall. If your favorite celebrity is Taylor Swift and she’s seen wearing a pretty dress from Urban Outfitters that you love, you’re going to want to find something similar.
Personal Style. Everybody has their own style, whether they are aware of it or not. If somebody likes wearing stripes, chances are she will buy multiple shirts with stripes. If I don’t like wearing skirts, I won’t go shopping for skirts. What one decides to buy is based on how she chooses to dress.

Beginning of fall brings fall fashions

With the beginning of fall has come the beginning of cold weather. This week at Rowan University, the change in the weather meant a change in the clothes worn around campus.

The cooler weather means less tank tops, and more jackets. This week Her Campus magazine provided readers with twenty different affordable fall jackets that will look stylish and keep you warm while walking to class. The different variety of jackets will help keep your outfits looking fresh this fall. The different styles, like the blazer or the trench coat, can be worn to class or they can be dressed up to wear at night.

If you are planning on doing any activities that come with fall, for example pumpkin picking, hayrides, or walking through a maze, College Fashion has provided you with several different outfit ideas. You can use these outfits as inspiration when you embark on any fall activities.

Fall also means hat weather. If you’re unsure of what kinds of hats you should wear, or what kinds of hats would look best on you, Her Campus has offered advice on what the best hats for your face shape are. The different hats are perfect for the fall weather.

When the weather gets cooler, flip flops and sandals begin to disappear while boots start to emerge from everybody’s closets. This week, Lauren Conrad suggests readers invest in a pair of booties.

When one cannot find something to wear, she usually turns to a pair of jeans. Lauren Conrad also suggested how to find the right fit for your figure. If you are looking for a new pair of jeans, or you are not satisfied with how your jeans you own now fit you, try taking Lauren’s advice.

If this cool, fall weather continues, try changing up your typical fall jacket, or try a pair of booties or a new hat.

Welcome to Campus Couture

Welcome to Campus Couture! My name is Emily Bierman, and I am a sophomore at Rowan University. I am a journalism major, and an aspiring magazine editor. In my free time I like to watch movies, write, craft, shop, and run Dress Like Taylor.

Campus Couture is beginning as a blog for my online journalism class, and hopefully continuing as a hobby even after I finish the course. Throughout the semester, I would like to focus on the different trends and fashions around the Rowan campus. I would like to provide readers with the chance to look at the different styles found on campus, including the ones they normally wouldn’t notice when walking to class or to the student center.

Campus Couture will also focus on more than just the different clothes seen around campus. Everybody wears clothes. I want to delve deeper and find out why the different clothes are worn. I want to find out what inspires students (and faculty) to wear what they wear. Is there a celebrity they try to look like? Is there a certain look they attempt to maintain? I want to find the inspiration behind the clothes.

Through Campus Couture, I hope to show that clothes are more than just clothes. What we wear makes a statement, whether we know it or not.
